Why you should cleanse your home of chemicals
When I became pregnant with my son in 2015, I had this sudden compulsion to throw away a lot of my household cleaning products, as well as a few regulars in my beauty cupboard. I tried to streamline my supplies. This came down to using a simple mix of vinegar, filtered water and essential oils mixed in for cleaning just about anything. I also like to use a mix of water and vinegar and baking soda to quickly sanitize our drains without the guilt.
For beauty I stopped using most of my makeup and lotions. Favoring coconut oil for moisturizer, and a mix of apple cider vinegar and water for an additional rinse after shampooing. This is a great way to not only remove scalp buildup but also create shiny hair.
According to the American Lung Association many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (vocs). Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors.
