How to use matcha in everyday recipes

After deciding to wean myself off caffeine in September I started to research alternatives. Not wanting to miss out on warming drinks during the colder months, I looked to some past favorites of mine, hot chocolate and green tea. While living in Japan during my homestay, my homestay mother introduced me to green tea. Every time I asked for water she would promptly brew me a green tea. From the age of 17-26 I religiously had a cup at least twice a day. Now that I’m in my mid thirties I found that a regular latte was needed to get me through my days with a toddler.

I came across a recipe for matcha latte on instagram and quickly purchased a small amount of ceremonial matcha for myself from Wholefoods. So far my favorite use for it is making a matcha latte instead of a second cup of coffee in the mid mornings. I add half a teaspoon to the bottom of my mug along with a pinch of cinnamon, some collagen powder, and then add hot water. Froth your milk of choice with maple syrup and add to the mix.

Another way to enjoy matcha is to add it to a simple almond flour cake. I always like to make some sort of dessert each weekend, pre slice and then freeze for treats throughout the week.

My last favorite is adding a pinch to your chia seed puddings. Mix with almond milk, chia seeds, and honey and then let it refrigerate overnight.
